VOCAL CORDS

This 3DNA animation shows both the anatomical location and the systematic function of the human vocal cords. The cords themselves are made up of two membranes stretched horizontally across the larynx. By using vibration, they are able to modulate the flow of air exhaled from the lungs. The fundamental sound generated by the larynx is thus influenced by the length, size, and tension of the cords.
